Make sure your lifelong dream isn’t a nightmare
A lot of folks want to move to Pawleys Island. But a lot of them get the same important things wrong when planning their move. Making these mistakes costs them money and erodes the happiness they came here to find in the first place.
You’ve come down during the summer, splashed in the waves, found your first sharks tooth. You were enchanted by the magic of Pawleys Island. Maybe you’ve been coming for years. Maybe your parents first brought you, and now you’re bringing your children. At some point, you had the realization that you’d enjoy living here. Taking in the sun and the sea, fishing, interacting with the friendly folks that live here.
The search begins!
So you start looking. Maybe you remember an area you stayed in, so you start there. You search the web and find some real estate agents posting their listings in this neighborhood. “Great!” you think. You call the agent and they set you up a search.
You make the hike down from your current home to take a look at some housing inventory. Some of it is too pricey. Others, just weird layouts. Nothing out of the ordinary when buying a home, but you don’t leave with a perfect option, so you start getting nervous.
Time to get serious
The next time a house comes up in that neighborhood you like, you make an offer but it sells immediately. Frustrated, you vow to not make that mistake again. When the next home becomes available, you run to check out the listing and put a cash offer in. Congratulations! They accept. You’re thrilled - your beach dream is becoming a reality. Or is it?
A costly mistake
When you get there, the movers have had trouble getting into the gate of the neighborhood. While you’re unpacking, a neighbor points out that your beloved smoker will need to be parked out of sight or you may get fined by the HOA. You walk around in the neighborhood, but the only people you meet are too old, or too young, or too incompatible. You realize that your neighborhood is an island, requiring you to drive everywhere you want to go.
You’ve fallen victim to the blunder people make when they move anywhere: it’s hard to know what neighborhoods or communities will fit with you and your lifestyle without actually living in them. This is especially true in resort communities like Pawleys Island, where access to the features that drew you to the area in the first place is so important.
Don’t let this be you
That’s why I built this site. I recently had some family move into the area, and their story played out exactly like this. They’ve only been here a year, and they’re already looking at new places to move - a costly and stressful experience.
Instead, I want you - and them! - to benefit from the knowledge of folks who have been here a long time. This site compiles not only information about neighborhoods, amenities, schools, churches, and more, but also local opinion of these places. This opinion will guide you as you think about what you want from the area.
Why you should move to Pawleys, and why you should let us help
We try to delve deeper than what you’ll find on real estate websites or even homeowners portals. We talk about the actual, practical aspects of the places you might want to live. We also take a look at the history, which permeates Pawleys Island and the area around it.
