Local Opinion
North Litchfield is my favorite beach to go to when I’m not at South Litchfield Beach. The beach is wide, and the houses are set back over generous dunes, so it feels more private than the other area beaches. Though there are a bunch of houses in the neighborhood, there are more accesses per mile than other areas, and the beaches seem to stay pretty quiet. It does lack some of the geographical interest of South Litchfield or Pawleys Island: it is flanked by other beach accesses on both sides rather than inlets. Even so, it’s a wonderful place to spend some time near the water.
Access
There are fifteen public beach accesses in North Litchfield. The furthest north is past Windover Drive, four houses from the end of Parker Drive. The accesses are spaced more or less evenly between the north access and the furthest south access at Loggerhead Lane, just north of the south end of Parker.
The access across from Eutaw Lane has handicapped ramps on both the parking side as well as the beach side.
Like South Litchfield Beach, you can park with all four tires off the road if you can find space. Unlike South Litchfield, several (though not all) of the accesses on North Litchfield include parking in dirt lots at the access itself. These spots can fill up quickly at peak season, so make sure you get there early or late. Please note that parking overnight at the public accesses is not allowed, and you will likely be ticketed if you’re caught.
Stuff to do
North Litchfield has better surf than South Litchfield in my experience.
In addition to the usual sun and fun of all Pawleys area beaches, North Litchfield offers access to the undeveloped beach of Huntington Beach State Park by foot, bike, or other non-motored vehicle. Though they may be a conceptual grey area, I do see folks on e-bikes all the time, including throttle e-bikes. I’m not sure what the difference is between that an a moped, but the powers that be think it’s fine!
Anyway, head north from North Litchfield to get to Huntington. Please note that while the beach access is unrestricted, you should buy a pass if you want to access the park itself, as entry by foot or bike is not free. Hop over to the page for Huntington for more info on the beach there!
South of North Litchfield is Litchfield By The Sea. There are no public beach accesses at LbtS, but there ARE a lot of people because it has the highest density of any of the area beaches, so I’m not sure why you’d want to go down there unless you’re meeting up with some friends.
