Verdict: affordable family neighborhood with a golf-cart ride to Pawleys beaches
One of my best friends lived in this neighborhood when we were growing up. We had several friends who also lived in Pawleys Landing, and we would always get together to play games or just hang out. In a town where many neighborhoods are separated from each other by a car ride, having a place where we could walk to congregate was awesome.
Pawleys Landing (and the other neighborhoods I’m lumping together under that name) is on the south side of the south causeway to Pawleys Island proper. Because the causeway is a 35mph road, you can drive a golf cart to the beach, which is a huge perk for many folks, especially if you have younger kids. The golf cart takes the brunt of the sand and salt, and your car stays clean.
Another nice perk is that this neighborhood is situated such that you can walk to the south end Food Lion and the other shops within that shopping center, as well as the newer Lowe’s Foods and it’s associated shopping center. This is a pretty rare commodity in Pawleys, and one that we as kids often took advantage of. If you’re like me, and you prefer to walk or bike if possible, easy access to both your necessities and your entertainment (beach, creek) is awesome.
One downside to this neighborhood, as with all the neighborhoods east of 17, is that you have to get onto or cross Highway 17 to get many places. You can cut through The Causeways to get to some of the shopping centers, restaurants, and other services south of the north causeway, but it doesn’t fully connect to the north causeway.
