When I first got back to Pawleys Island, I didn’t think about needing a refill on my medicines. It ended up being a costly mistake, as I had to go a few days without medicine I need. Don’t make my mistake - get set up with a local pharmacy as soon as, or even before, you get to Pawleys.
Pawleys Island Pharmacy
Pawleys Island Pharmacy is the only locally owned-and-operated pharmacy on this list. Like all small pharmacies, it excels at providing a personalized experience. The pharmacists get to know you personally, and can provide recommendations and flexibility that it is difficult to get at a chain pharmacy. Because they are a smaller operation with fewer clients, wait times are lower. And of course, you’re working with someone connected to your community, a great intangible for any business. I know folks who have remained very loyal to Pawleys Island Pharmacy over the years for these reasons.
Like most pharmacies, they offer a range of services, including:
- Medication Therapy Management The pharmacists will work with you to manage your medication plan, including dealing with side effects, drug interactions, and other issues with your plan of care.
- Medical Equipment Pawleys Island Pharmacy carries and can supply durable medical equipment, such as walkers and canes, assistive tools, orthopedic supplies, and more.
- Immunizations They can help with both routine vaccines such as flu or COVID vaccines and more periodic or as-needed vaccines, such as you might need to begin school or prepare for a trip abroad.
Pawleys Island Pharmacy has two convenient locations in Pawleys Island. The south end location is just north of True Blue Nursery on the east side Highway 17, in a freestanding building. The north end location is in the Food Lion shopping center on Willbrook Boulevard. If neither of these locations meets your needs, they also offer free delivery in the Pawleys Island area.
Contact Pawleys Island Pharmacy at (843) 417 - 9074 (south end location) / (843) 314 - 0498 (north end location) or visit their website for more information.
CVS
The CVS in Pawleys is not too dissimilar from CVSes everywhere. Big store, well stocked, quite pricey. In my experience, the pharmacy staff are friendly, and the drive through is very convenient for quickly picking up medicines. They will even give your dog a treat if you have the pooch in the car. The drive through does close during a lunch break for staff, which can be really annoying.
This CVS does include a MinuteClinic for minor illness and aches and pains, which can be handy in a pinch. Like all CVSes, it does immunizations and other services as well.
The CVS is conveniently located on the west side of Highway 17 in front of the Publix shopping center, south of Waverly Road. Contact CVS at (843) 237 - 4036 and visit their website for more information on hours and services.
Walgreens
Like the CVS, the Walgreens in Pawleys Island is pretty much the same Walgreens you’ll find anywhere. For that matter, I find Walgreens and CVS to be very similar, in price, services, and anything else. I haven’t personally used the Walgreens here for anything except for a quick snack, so I can’t personally comment on it too much.
The Walgreens is located on the east side of Highway 17 at the north causeway. I personally find this location less convenient than the CVS. Contact Walgreens at (843) 979 - 1079 and visit their website for more info.
Publix Pharmacy
Which brings me to Publix Pharmacy, located inside the Publix. I tried to use Publix Pharmacy some time ago and found the staff a bit grumpy and short. It seems like they are always overworked and busy. I have heard from others that they have had a similar experience there. That said, if you shop at Publix, it is extremely convenient. They do offer vaccines there, though they turned me away last time I tried to get one, saying they were too busy to give me the jab.
At any rate, you can contact Publix Pharmacy at (843) 235 - 3775 and visit their website for information about hours, though that’s all the website for this location has on it.
The Medicine Shoppe (in Georgetown)
Though it’s not technically in Pawleys Island, I do want to shout out to the Medicine Shoppe in nearby Georgetown. They are a compounding pharmacy, which means they can do custom medication orders, something that the chains cannot. They were the only pharmacy in the area that could fill a prescription for a family member of mine that required compounding. The staff there was friendly and accommodating.
Beyond that, though they are not a locally owned pharmacy, they are rather small, so you get many of the same benefits described earlier for Pawleys Island Pharmacy. If you need compounded medications, give them a shot.
The Medicine Shoppe is located on North Frasier Street in Georgetown, about a 15 minute drive from Pawleys Island. You can contact them by phone at (843) 546 - 2880. Visit their website for more information.
